Itinerary: 7 Days desert tour from Tangier

1. Day 1

   Tangier – Chefchaouen

   We’ll meet you in Tangier at the airport, port, or your accommodation and start the tour with some of the city’s main highlights. Depending on your arrival time, we can visit Hercules Cave and Cap Spartel, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean.

   There will also be time to explore the old Tangier Medina before leaving the city and heading towards the Rif Mountains.

   The drive to Chefchaouen takes us through beautiful mountain scenery. Once we arrive, you’ll have some free time to walk around the famous blue streets, explore the small shops, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the town.

2. Day 2

   Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

   After breakfast, we leave Chefchaouen and continue towards Volubilis. This ancient Roman site is one of the most interesting historical places in Morocco. You’ll have time to walk around the ruins and see the well-preserved mosaics, columns, and old buildings.

   From Volubilis, we continue to Meknes, one of Morocco’s four imperial cities. We’ll visit the old Medina and Bab Mansour, one of the most impressive gates in the country, before continuing to Fes.

   We’ll arrive in Fes later in the afternoon and check into your riad. The evening is free to relax or take a short walk around the Medina.

3. Day 3

   Fes Guided Tour

   Today you’ll discover Fes with a local guide who knows the city and its history well.

   The tour takes you through Fes el-Bali, the old Medina, where you’ll find narrow streets, traditional markets, artisan workshops, and historic buildings. Among the main places to see are the Royal Palace gates, Bou Inania Madrasa, Al Quaraouiyine University, Nejjarine Fountain, and the famous Chouara Tanneries.

   There is also time to see some of the traditional crafts for which Fes is famous and learn more about everyday life in the old city.

   Before finishing the day, we’ll stop at a viewpoint overlooking the Medina.

4. Day 4

   Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

   Today we leave Fes and make our way towards the Sahara Desert.

   Our first part of the journey takes us through the Middle Atlas Mountains, with a stop in Ifrane before continuing towards the cedar forests near Azrou. If we’re lucky, we may see the Barbary macaques that live in the area.

   We’ll stop in Midelt for lunch before continuing south. As we get closer to the desert, the scenery changes completely. One of the highlights along the way is the Ziz Valley, with its large palm oasis surrounded by rocky landscapes.

   By late afternoon, we reach Merzouga, where you’ll meet your camel guide. The camel trek takes you across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, with plenty of time to enjoy the sunset.

   Once you reach the camp, enjoy dinner and an evening of local music before spending the night under the Sahara sky.

5. Day 5

   Merzouga Desert Exploration

   We’ll spend the day exploring the area around Merzouga rather than simply staying at the camp.

   After breakfast, we’ll take a 4×4 excursion through the desert. One of the stops will be with a local nomadic family, where you can see how people have adapted to life in this remote part of Morocco.

   We’ll then visit Khamlia, a small village known for its Gnawa musicians. You’ll have the chance to listen to their music and learn a little about the local culture.

   The rest of the excursion takes us through the desert to places such as old mining areas, fossil sites, and desert oases. There will also be time for sandboarding, photography, or simply enjoying the dunes.

   After the excursion, return to Merzouga and spend a relaxing evening.

6. Day 6

   Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Azrou – Meknes

   After breakfast, we leave Merzouga and start the drive north towards Meknes.

   We’ll travel back through the Ziz Valley before reaching the Middle Atlas Mountains. The scenery changes along the way, from the dry desert landscapes to green mountain areas.

   A stop in Midelt gives us time for lunch before continuing towards Azrou and the cedar forests. From there, we continue north to Meknes.

   We expect to arrive in Meknes in the evening, giving you time to relax at your accommodation after the day’s drive.

7. Day 7

   Meknes – Asilah – Tangier

   After breakfast, we leave Meknes and head towards the Atlantic coast.

   Our main stop today is Asilah, a small and charming coastal town known for its whitewashed buildings, colorful street art, old city walls, and relaxed atmosphere. Take some time to walk through the Medina, explore the narrow streets, and enjoy lunch by the coast.

   From Asilah, we continue to Tangier, where the tour comes to an end. Depending on your travel plans, we can drop you off at your hotel, the airport, or the port.

   Alternative ending: If you prefer to continue your trip in southern Morocco, we can also arrange for the tour to end in Marrakech instead of Tangier. Just let us know when making your booking, and we’ll adjust the final arrangements accordingly.
