Planning your visit to Fes

Spring and autumn are the sweet spot — comfortable temperatures for walking the medina’s 9,000 alleys. Fes sits inland, so July and August can be very hot.

Fes–Saïss Airport is about 15 km south of the city, and comfortable trains connect Fes with Casablanca, Rabat and Tangier. Fes is also the classic starting point for desert trips to Merzouga.

Plan two days for the medina and the artisan quarters; add a third for a day trip to Chefchaouen, Volubilis or Meknes.
